9 Iced Matcha Recipes – Lattes, Cocktails & Easy Drinks

Posted by Angelina Kurganska on

Nine iced matcha recipes – from a classic iced matcha latte to a sparkling matcha lemonade, a mango smoothie, and a matcha mojito. All easy to make at home, all delicious cold.

Note: while these recipes use warm water to dissolve the matcha before adding ice, you can also dissolve matcha directly in cold water – it takes more vigorous whisking but works well for a quick version.

What’s The Best Matcha Powder To Use?

Latte Grade Vs. Ceremonial Matcha.

Ceremonial grade matcha is made from exceptionally high-quality leaves. It is used almost exclusively for traditional Japanese tea ceremonies or the making of koicha

If purchased from a trusted vendor, latte-grade matcha will still be fresh, grassy, vivid green, and sweet. Of course, the quality will be slightly lower than that of ceremonial grade, but it's still a great option.

For the recipes below, we recommend our Latte Matcha – fresh, grassy, and made for mixing. For the coconut water matcha or matcha wine, our Ceremonial Grade Matcha is worth the upgrade – its cleaner, sweeter flavor comes through even in a mixed drink.

Our Favorite Iced Matcha Recipes

Here we’ve gathered some of our favorite matcha green tea recipes. They are all refreshing, healthy, delicious, and fairly easy to make!

Since matcha powder incorporates the entire tea leaf, it has a slightly higher caffeine content than other types of green tea. Any of these recipes will have significantly less caffeine than a cup of coffee. If you are sensitive to caffeine, it may be wise to enjoy these green tea drinks in the early afternoon. Some people find that matcha on an empty stomach can cause mild sensitivity – if you're new to matcha, it's worth trying it with a light snack first. Well, without further ado, our favorite iced matcha recipes:

Dalgona Matcha Latte

4. Dalgona Matcha Latte

Dalgona Matcha is a fun recipe for those who like their matcha milky and sweet. It's an interesting take on the classic matcha latte and is worth trying if you have some extra time on your hands, as the whipped matcha cream is the most important part of this recipe.

Recipe:

-

  • Combine the matcha powder, cream, and sugar in a bowl and whip by hand or with a hand-mixer until soft peaks form. The texture should be creamy, airy, and soft; not too stiff.
  • Fill a glass with ice, milk, and then gently layer the prepared dalgona matcha cream on top.
  • Stir and enjoy!

5. Matcha on Coconut Water

A straightforward iced matcha recipe! Perhaps the easiest and most thirst-quenching of the bunch. A swell option for when you’re pinched for time.

Recipe:

-

  • Sift the matcha powder, pour 3 tbsp of warm water, and whisk with a chasen until frothy
  • Fill a glass with ice, then the coconut water, and finally the matcha shot on top.
  • Gently mix before enjoying.

Matcha Orange Fresh

6. Matcha Orange Fresh

This matcha recipe is a beautiful two-layer drink consisting of fresh-pressed orange juice and a straight matcha shot. The orange juice is sweet enough and not overpowering of the matcha. It makes a delightful addition to brunchtime with friends!

Recipe:

-

  • Sift the matcha powder, pour 3 tbsp of warm water, and whisk with a chasen until frothy
  • Fill a glass with ice and pour in the matcha
  • Pour the orange juice on top
  • Gently mix and enjoy!
matcha lemonade

Sparkling Matcha Lemonade

7. Sparkling Matcha Lemonade

This is a healthy, thirst-quenching twist on the classic sparkling lemonade. We enjoy this drink without any sweetener. However, if you would like yours sweetened, you may want to use a little more lemon to balance out the sweetness.

Recipe:

 -

  • Sift the matcha powder, pour 3 tbsp of warm water, and whisk with a chasen until frothy
  • In a glass, stir the sparkling water together with the juice of half a lemon
  • Fill the glass with some ice and pour the matcha on top
  • Gently mix and enjoy!

8.  Matcha and Wine

This one may be a stretch for purists, but you might be surprised how well these two complement each other. Perhaps the easiest of matcha cocktails, the trick is to use dry white wine and make sure it’s properly chilled beforehand.

Recipe:

-

  • Sift the matcha powder, pour 3 tbsp of warm water, and whisk with a chasen until frothy
  • Fill a wine glass with chilled wine and gently pour the matcha on top
  • Swirl the wine glass in your hand, letting the two softly incorporate.
  • Enjoy!
matcha mojito

Matcha Mojito

9. Matcha Mojito

A refreshing drink equally delicious with or without alcohol. What’s better than refreshing mint and energizing matcha in the summer heat?

Recipe:

  • 1 tsp matcha green tea powder
  • 3 tbsp warm water
  • 1/2 cup sparkling water or club soda
  • ½ cup white rum (omit for a mocktail)
  • 1 1/2 tbsp sugar (optional)
  • 10 mint leaves
  • 1/2 lime
  • Ice

-

  • Sift the matcha powder, pour 3 tbsp of warm water, and whisk with a chasen until frothy
  • Fill a glass with mint leaves, sugar, and the juice of ½ a lime. Muddle until the mint leaves are well crushed
  • Shake matcha, rum, and ice in a shaker or jar
  • Pour the matcha-rum into the glasses, pour the sparkling water on top, and mix well.
  • Optionally, garnish with extra mint leaves
  • Enjoy!
