What can be more enticing than watching rising steam, listening to crackling charcoal, boiling water, and a Chaozhou clay kettle clacking lid?
The Chaozhou charcoal stove and clay kettle are a must-have if you are serious about Gong Fu Cha. It will transform the entire tea experience by taking it to the next level. You can fire it in the backyard or take it on a hike to make tea in a picturesque place – the total weight of the stove with the kettle is only 3.7lb (1.7kg). If you plan to use it indoors, take all the safety measures and secure proper ventilation. Use olive pit charcoal or something similar (the fuel must be smokeless and, most importantly, carbon monoxide-less).
The Gong Fu ceremony was unheard of in China just a few decades ago. It is said that Gong Fu Cha that we know today was created in Taiwan when Japanese influence was still prominent, perfected, then brought back to China, where it continued flourishing. But the origin of Gong Fu Cha is from Guangdong, and today's Gong Fu brewing style is the closest to brewing tea the way they brew it in Chaozhou. Chaozhou Gong Fu Cha is much less fancy than the modern-day Gong Fu practice that we enjoy, and it doesn't require fancy utensils and decorations. But some things are a must. Charcoal stove, Chaozhou clay kettle, good water, good tea, clay teapot, and three cups are simply a means of brewing tea and making it taste good.

Many tea connoisseurs would stand by the statement that water boiled on the open fire in a clay kettle is so much better than the one boiled in a stainless steel electric kettle. We advise you to try it yourself and form your own opinion. After all, we believe that the path of cha is all about having fun experimenting.
The Chinese writing on the stove is a famous Chaozhou quote about Gong Fu Cha: "è–„é”…æ²¸æ¸…æ³‰ï¼Œæ³¥ç‚‰ç‚½æ¦„æ ¸" – "Water from clear springs is boiling in a thin-walled kettle, olive pits coal is burning bright in a stove".
