Happy Pig Tea Pet, ZiSha (Yixing Clay)

$24.00

If you’ve participated in a traditional Chinese tea ceremony before, you might’ve noticed a small ceramic animal sitting on the tea tray, slowly slurping tea together with the tea master.

In Chinese culture, the cute and chubby face of a pig symbolizes abundance and good fortune. Drinking tea next to the Happy Pig Tea Pet, we hope that your new pig companion rubs off on you and greets you with an abundance of delicious tea and a feeling of peace.

What is a tea pet?

A tea pet is a small clay figurine used during gong fu cha for a variety of purposes; most often as decoration, but also used by tea lovers for good luck or to get the tea water temperature perfect.

How to use a tea pet:

Certain tea masters believe a tea pet initially has no soul. Pouring tea over it, which has a soul, in turn, gives the tea pet a soul.

During the gong fu, constantly hydrate the tea pet by pouring leftover tea over it. It can be the hot water used for warming up the teaware, water used to rinse the tea leaves, or any leftover steeped tea after filling up all the teacups.

We recommend using only one type of tea with the yixing clay tea pet. Yixing clay is very porous and easily absorbs the aroma and oils of the tea. With time, notice how your tea gongfu tea pet becomes shiny from the tea oils.

indispensable part of gong fu!

Wow. I got my sleepy pig just a couple months back, and after weekly gong fu tea with him, I already notice the difference in the clay from the tea oils. Now I can't imagine my cerenonies without him

What a cute tea pet! I can't wait to use it more, waiting for it to become shiny and coated in tea oils. Reserving this cute fat piggy for rolled oolongs :)
