"White Peony" Bai Mudan White Tea

$30.00

A young monk asked the wise tea master Lao Cha:

Shifu, what tea is capable of cooling one down during the hot summer days and warming one up during the cold nights in the mountains?

– It's Bai Mudan White Tea. This tea is healthy and mellow, and the slightly sweet taste makes it easy to enjoy.

Our Organic "White Peony" Bai Mudan White Tea is made of Shi Sheng Miao – a traditional local Yunnan cultivar. It differs from other cultivars in being grown from seeds rather than cuttings. The tea garden is sitting at 1800 meters elevation where it is covered in forest, with ample rainfall and fog, producing a pristine environment without the need for fertilizer.

The tea buds of our White Peony tea are strong and thick. Visible white hair-covered buds emerge amidst the intensive dark green leaves with a delicate fresh aroma. Brewing reveals a clear, almond yellow tea soup. The tea is light, clear, and refreshing. Its mellow mouthfeel combines with a soft soy milk finish.

White Peony Bai Mudan White Tea is an excellent choice for those who want to experience white tea. Its stands between the subtle aroma and delicate freshness of Siver Needles and the ripe, mellow taste of Shou Mei. This way, it combines the best of both worlds and makes for an enchanting tea experience in the world of white tea.

Wuliang Mountain (meaning Endless Mountain) - is a famous tea-growing region near Pu'er City in Yunnan. It has been a source of high-quality tea since old times. Here is how the ancients described this piece of land: "its towering heights penetrate the clouds, one can't climb it; its surface is so vast one can't measure it." According to the legend, tea cultivation in the region began more than 2000 years ago. Then, the mythical Zhuge Liang taught people how to grow and process tea leaves. Although this might be hard to prove, the local Yi minority claims they have cultivated tea on the mountain's slopes for 60 generations now.

Wuliang mountain has a unique tea-growing environment. Tall and majestic, stretching for hundreds of miles, it reaches above 3000 meters above sea level. Its lowest point is still above 1000 meters. The abundant rainfall and mild climate form a natural surrounding, veiled in clouds and mists throughout the year. The tea gardens mainly consist of old wild trees. They're scattered in a belt of 1600 - 2200 meters above sea level. The superior natural conditions create a unique terroir for the locally grown tea.
