Gong Fu translates as 'right effort'. Hence, Gong Fu Cha refers to the effort we put into getting the best flavor from a loose-leaf tea.
When using a small infuser like a Gaiwan, tea is brewed in concentrated quantities. This allows for full extraction of the tea's qualities. Hot water can be added to the same tea leaves repeatedly, up to 13 times with superior teas. This method maximizes the quantity of brewed tea from each serving of leaves. It allows the tea drinker to mindfully observe the changes in each brew.
