Porcelain Gaiwan with Handwritten Calligraphy

$38.00

A gaiwan is the central part of Gong Fu style tea, used for infusing tea leaves. The components are a bowl, lid, and saucer. We use a gaiwan to warm up tea, smell its aroma, and observe unfurling tea leaves.

A porcelain gaiwan is good to use with light teas, like green, white, yellow teas, and light oolongs.

The porcelain texture is not as porous as the Yixing clay gaiwan. Instead of absorbing, porcelain reveals the "true flavor" of tea, allowing the subtle, gentle flavors of the lighter teas to shine. Against the white background, the light tea liquor and beautiful unfurling tea leaves will be a pleasant sight.

The Chinese characters (静, 禅, 悟, 道 – Tranquility, Zen, Enlightenment, Tao) that are hand-painted on this delicate porcelain gaiwan represent the journey that is ultimately the very essence of Gong Fu Cha – Chinese tea ceremony.

  • Size: 3.5 x 3inch / 9 x 8cm
  • Capacity: 110ml

NOTE: Gaiwan and other teaware (especially those made of clay) easily absorb taste and aromas and should never be washed using detergents.
