Tokoname clay, native to Aichi prefecture in northern Japan, is one of Japan's six original kiln styles and dates back to the 12th century Heian Period.
The light-brown clay reacts with tannins in the tea to decrease bitterness and bring out even more sweetness. The flat and wide shape allows leaves to absorb the water evenly and to open up fully.
Designed for Gyokuro, the slow and steady pour will get all the umami out of your shaded tea. The built-in ceramic mesh is easy to clean. Carefully handcrafted in Aichi prefecture, it is a well-thought-through teapot.
