"Clouds & Mist" Lu Shan Yun Wu Green Tea

$32.00

A young monk asked the wise tea master Lao Cha:

Sifu, why does the Cloud Tea from Lu Shan have such an exquisite taste?

– The secret lies in its name: it grows on top of Lu Mountain, covered from harsh sun rays by the clouds and mist from nearby rivers and lakes. The seeds of this tea were planted by Buddhist monks hundreds of years ago. It’s no wonder that its mellow and long-lasting flavor is comparable to the flavor of Buddhism itself.

Well-known throughout China for its breathtaking scenery, Jiangxi Province is also the home of Yun Wu (Cloud Tea) green tea. The bounty of rivers and lakes in the area creates clouds and mist – the perfect weather conditions for green tea growing.

The Lu Mountains have a long tea history that can be traced back to the Han Dynasty. Hui Yuan, the famous Buddhist monk who lived in Lu Shan Mountains, is known for planting the seeds of tea trees along with planting the seeds of Buddhism. The Yun Wu tea appears during the Ming dynasty as a continuation of the rich tea heritage in the region. Until now, it has more than three centuries of production history.

Moistened by the high mountain clouds and mist, Lu Shan Yun Wu tea is one of our most graceful green teas. It is characterized by a rich aroma and a mellow, long-lasting flavor. The leaves of Lu Shan Yun Wu curl into small spirals due to the unique rolling process during which the leaves are placed in a rounded bamboo basket and then rolled by hand into strips.

The "Clouds & Mist" Lu Shan Yun Wu Green Tea has lustrous, dark green leaves with a greyish hue. They are gently curled into dark jade-colored spirals. The soup has a clear, pale green-yellow color. A rich floral aroma with notes of chestnut and roasted beans conquer the senses. The taste is refreshing and brisk while undeniably sweet. A long-lasting fragrance is the marking point of this tea experience.

Lu Shan Mountain stands in the southern region of Jiujiang City in Jiangxi Province, on the southern bank of the Yangtze River. Clouds and mists enveil the mountain for almost half of the entire year. The high differences in day and night temperature and abundant moisture provide a unique environment for this tea. The local small-leaf variety is very resistant to cold. At the same time, the natural surroundings benefit the accumulation of nutrients. Lu Shan Yun Wu tea is arguably richer in inner substances than most of the standard green teas from the region.

Wonderful Green Tea- Clouds and Mist

I bought this tea a few months ago, brewed it a few times and enjoyed it. However, over the last 2 weeks I discovered just how wonderful this green tea is. It is outstanding. The flavor is lightly vegetal, sweet and softly fragrant. I've felt the energy of the tea buzzing thru me too. It's really cool how "cloudy" the liquor appears. Thank you Path of Cha!

Starting to Get It

The other reviews have been really helpful to me. I don’t seem to have a memory repertoire of gustatory references I can access to describe green teas well. I’ve enjoyed senchas, and especially a fukamushicha and a gyokuro I consumed last year. Black teas are a familiar resonance, oolongs less so, green teas are remote. My brews of Clouds and Mist came out bitter and confusing. Others praise how this tea is not bitter. So I checked my kettle water at lowest setting of 175F and found it’s really 183F. I adjusted and brewed at 160F and got a very enjoyable vegetal tea with good umami balance, and a sweetness and minerality that came on in the very long finish. The mouth feel is silky and coating. A lovely tea with big body and character. I’ll eventually be able to better know and understand my experiences with green tea, but still, I suspect even experienced aficionados can be left with a loss for words for these teas that may be inherently mysterious. If that’s true that’s a good thing.

Thank you for the review, Steven! You've got a one tricky kettle!

The perfect morning cup of tea.

After being gifted this magical tea over a year ago by a Chinese student, I looked for it for months and couldn't find it. Over a year later, I discovered it on the other coast at Path of Cha. The flavor is PERFECT. It's delicate, while aromatic and and delicious. Never sour or bitter. It is absolutely my favorite green tea. SO glad I found it!

perfectly balanced green tea!

Now this is a green tea I can drink every day! Somehow it excellently balances a creamy sweetness, crisp saltiness, and a vey "filling" flavor. Almost like eating a meal. I have been drinking this tea regular around lunch time and it provides me with all the energy I need to complete my day's work. Mostly brewing grandpa-style as the leaves are a relaxing sight for the eyes <3
