"Sunset" Akafuki Matcha Set

$63.00

This matcha set is designed around a Tenmoku-style chawan called the Akafuki. The "Sunset" Akafuki Chawan is a deep, wide bowl with a rich, dark glaze – a blend of tradition and modern Japanese pottery design. The glaze features a red spray (hence "Akafuki," literally "red‑sprayed") that shifts from deep crimson to burgundy, depending on the light – this hue fades into the signature dark surface of Tenmoku ware.

The wide, 350ml bowl gives your chasen room to move, allowing you to mix the matcha evenly, while the deep glaze lets you appreciate the color and sheen of the foam. Tenmoku bowls have been prized for centuries by Japanese tea masters and originated in China's Jian ware. – Akafuki Chawan connects you to a long heritage of tea practice.

The set includes:

  • Natural bamboo whisk (茶筅 – chasen) for frothing matcha smoothly

  • Bamboo scoop (茶杓 – chashaku) to measure the right portion

  • Akafuki Chawan (赤吹茶碗)

NOTE:

Chawan: Our Chawans are handcrafted. Variations in glaze and color exist, making each one unique. The Chawan delivered may not be exactly as pictured, but will be crafted in the same style, shape, and spirit.

• Chasen: Tine tips of Chasen (bamboo matcha whisk) will unfurl upon first use. Store with tines facing up or place on a whisk holder to protect and maintain the tines’ shape. Care Instructions: Before first use, soak the whisk in hot water for 2 minutes to soften the tines. After use, rinse under running water, then set out to dry.

• Chashaku Care Instructions: Wipe with a clean cloth. Dampen a cloth if necessary.
