Our Yun Si Fang (蕴四方) teapot is a fine example of Yixing craftsmanship. The name can be translated as "Harmony of All Sides" or "Embracing the Four Directions". The word 蕴 (Yun) implies "to embrace," while 四方 (Si Fang) refers to the "Four Directions" (North, South, East, and West) or "all sides." The name and the shape reflect the philosophy of balance, harmony, and completeness in all aspects.
The teapot's silhouette captivates with soft curves and subtle transitions. The artistry behind this pot lies in its masterful combination of symmetry and fluidity — the shape seamlessly combines the softness of round vessels with the precision of square forms, creating a unique, balanced aesthetic.
The lid's button adds to the sense of flow. The curved spout guarantees that the teapot pours with ease and grace. The handle, shaped for comfort while pouring, further enhances the teapot's functionality and visual appeal.
Delicately engraved plum blossoms adorn the surface of the teapot. The plum blossom's connotations in Chinese culture are perseverance and inner strength, resilience and self-improvement, imbuing the pot with poetic depth. The intricate and clean carving technique adds a subtle embellishment that complements the overall softness of the teapot's shape.
Our Yun Sifang teapot is handmade from high-quality DuanNi clay from Huang Long Shan (Yellow Dragon Mountain, aka Ben Shan) – the original mining spot that gained Yixing clay its outstanding reputation. DuanNi clay is less porous than ZiNi ZiSha, so it doesn't mute high notes and has a better sand structure to filter out impurities in water.
The source of the highest-quality Yixing clay, Huanglong Shan, was sealed for mining decades ago, since 2005, making the clay scarcer by the year and adding value to such teapots.
The teapot is wood-fired, adding to its unique characteristics. During the firing process, wood ash naturally settles on the surface, creating one-of-a-kind textures and color variations. This natural ash glaze imparts a special kiln effect, enhancing the teapot's earthy, organic appearance. The wood-firing process adds to its beauty and influences the pot's performance, allowing for better air permeability and superior water-softening qualities. The rich minerals in the clay elevate the flavor and aroma of the tea, making every brew more flavorful and fragrant.
