This beautiful ZiSha teapot is shaped in the classic pear form (Li Xing – 梨形), with a narrow top, wide bottom, and rounded belly. Its low center of gravity gives it a composed, stable presence in the hand. The lid fits seamlessly into the body, and its slightly arched form helps concentrate and release the fragrance of tea. The spout is a round bead spout with clean, fluid lines that connect gracefully to the body. The pour is smooth, and the water flows evenly, thanks to the pot's thoughtful construction. Li Xing form is considered one of the most classic and time-honored shapes in Yixing pot making.

The teapot is crafted from ZiNi clay (紫泥) from Huang Long Mountain (黄龙山) – the very core area of Yixing clay production. Huanglong clay is the original ore deposit, not the "modern" clay that is more common today. ZiSha clay from Huanglong is denser and more mineral-rich, resulting in better porosity and aging potential. Teapots made from this clay tend to develop more character over time, favored by serious tea drinkers for the way they interact with tea.

What gives this teapot its unusual black appearance is not paint or glaze but the result of a reduction firing process. During high-temperature firing, the oxygen inside the kiln is deliberately reduced. This shifts the iron compounds in the clay from iron oxide trioxide (Fe₂O₃), which gives red hues, to iron oxide tetroxide (Fe₃O₄), which results in a rich, dark tone. The process alters both the surface texture and color of the ZiSha clay, giving it a deep grayish-black appearance.

This teapot is finished with the use of ZiSha gold sprinkling (ZiSha Sa Jin – 紫砂洒金) – a traditional decorative technique that dots the surface with touches of gold, creating a contrast against the dark clay. This technique adds a subtle layer of refinement without overwhelming the form.

The teapot is crafted by Ren Yixin – a young artist with a solid foundation in the craft. His style balances simplicity, liveliness, and elegance. Ren Yixin works primarily within classic forms, adding a touch of innovation to keep things fresh and interesting.
