This elegant Yixing teapot is named after Xi Shi, one of ancient China's famed Four Beauties. Legend has it that she was so beautiful that when Xi Shi gazed upon fish in a pond from her balcony, the fish were so captivated by her presence that they stopped swimming and sank.
The teapot's design, inspired by the gentle curves and softness of classic beauty, adds a touch of grace to your tea table. The small spout resembles the nose of a beautiful girl, the lid button and handle resemble her hair buns, and the teapot's round body resembles Xi Shi's round face.
This teapot is crafted from Zhao Zhuang Zhu Ni Yixing clay (宜兴赵庄朱泥), renowned for its high iron content and refined texture. Zhaozhuang Zhuni is clay from one of the Original Mines. It can be recognized by its brownish hue, which transforms into a beautiful vermilion or dark red upon firing. During firing, this clay has a 20% shrinkage rate, making the craft of the Xi Shi pot a challenge in terms of precision and skill.
This teapot is crafted by Ren Yixin. With over a decade of dedication to the art of ZiSha clay, Ren Yixin has a deep understanding of the craft and traditional aesthetics. His commitment to quality, functionality, and elegance is evident.
Xi Shi teapot is as functional as it is beautiful. The shape of the body of this teapot offers enough space for tea leaves to unfurl and fully release their flavors. This teapot has become a favorite and will become staple for brewing Chinese black teas. Immediately toned down the stringent taste in some of the stronger teas I own. The pour is clean and smooth. It’s small and cute but produces plenty of tea for a solo brew. The packaging was beautiful and I was surprised to see a letter in the carrying case. This is truly a special gift to myself.

The 80 ml size is perfect for a solo tea session. It enables one to experience several steepings of the same tea. The lid fits well and the spout pours cleanly and effortlessly. It was easy to season and has no odd clay taste. It is a joy to use and the traditional color fits in with the other tea ware. Beautifully boxed and wrapped. Highly recommended!
I bought this for "micro" brewing...when you don't have time for a full cup or have a tiny amount of tea leaves that you want to steep in a very small vessel. It arrived quickly and was packed very carefully. It's hard to find pots this small and this one is really adorable. It's shape makes it perfect for oolongs or any tea where the leaves expand substantially.
