Crafted from world-renowned Kaolin clay from Dehua in Fujian Province, China. This porcelain gaiwan is made without glaze and fired at a high temperature of 1380 degrees. The tactile and qualitative finish is resemblant to Jade, giving it the name “Jade Porcelain” in China. This quality is seen in its translucency when holding the gaiwan up to the light. A most delicate work of art.

Porcelain gaiwan are well-suited for light teas, like green teawhite teayellow tea, and light oolongs. The thin walls ensure that these delicate teas don't become over-brewed. The porcelain highlights the subtle flavors and brings out otherwise lost colors of the tea.

Due to its low iron oxide amounts, Dehua clays refine to a bright white hue. Blanc de Chine translates as “White from China” in French. The embroidery is plated in 18K gold and results in a “raised” effect on the gaiwan. In the Ming Dynasty, the peacock represented rank, power, and beauty. Indeed, the fine and intricate artwork of this gaiwan will catch the eye of even the finest teaware aesthete.
