"Dragon Egg" Handmade Jingdezhen Teapot

$89.00

The shape of this teapot is a variation of one of the classical teapot shapes Long Dan (龍蛋) – Dragon Egg. Dragon, in Chinese culture, is a supremely auspicious figure, signifying wisdom and abundance. This shape allows for brewing long tea leaves and was caroled by the famous Qing Dynasty poet Wu Dingmei. The beautiful earthy glazes with colors mingling in the light.

Jingdezhen pottery has a rich history. It's a type of ceramic produced in Southern China as early as the 6th century CE. By the 14th century, Jingdezhen became the largest kiln site and porcelain producer in China. It was particularly known for its Imperial kilns, meaning a large amount of the pottery was produced for the Imperial court.

The walls are thin, and the speed of the pour is exceptionally high. These factors allow quickly decanting the brew and prevent over-steeping delicate teas. The handmade teapot is ideal for sharing tea with a friend as well as for larger tea ceremonies.
