A tea needle is a necessary tool for breaking up pu-erh cakes, brick tea, and tuocha. Push the needle gently into the cake, then gently work it up and down until the tea loosens a little. Repeat from two to three different points until a desired sized piece breaks off. This method prevents you from damaging the cake and leaves fewer leaf scraps.
